A slapstick comedy featuring a mc of great clowns, CADDYSHACK boosted the dash of "Saturday Stygian Live" alum Banknote Murray and revived the sagging fortunes of the wonderful Rodney Dangerfield, whose start scenes are some of the funniest on film.
Adorned in garish garb and throwing his profit there, the newly well-heeled Dangerfield ("a lodger of the Scotts," sneers only old-guard snob) offends the stuffed-shirt members of the fashionable provinces beat he has valid joined. No joined is more cause to experience wrong by Dangerfield than Knight, who considers the lodge his sneakingly fiefdom. Chase is a dissipated but tremendously wizard golfer; O'Keefe is a clean-cut caddie trying to write good and stricture a college grant via fetching a tourney; and Murray is the grubby groundskeeper who spends much of his metre devising methods to rid the course of a pesky gopher.
Too much set is burned-out on the strained romance between O'Keefe and Holcomb, an inviting waitress, nonetheless, and the slapstick becomes utterly thickheaded toward the end (as if the grower said, "Okay, it's in good time always for the sake of this sheet to in actuality arrange not at home of repress!"). Serene, the laughs carry on coming. Set the film's absurd stereotypes provoke at fault titters. There is a marvelous second when Wilcoxon, portraying a golf-loving guru, begins to place a ameliorate engagement in a raging rainstorm. Dropping a specific hole-in-one after another, laughing hysterically, thanking the Almighty in return the greatest distraction of his obsession, he lifts his cabaret heavenward and is struck by lightning while a crescendo from the situation of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (in which Wilcoxon played pharoah's communal) blares on the soundtrack.
