Everyone else, including Bale, fades into the background, but it’s hard to complain when Depp and Cotillard give such magnetic performances.

I have to state that I’m a movie buff and an Asian martial artist so my review might be a bit critical as evidenced by the lively teenagers who were gleefully shaking the cinema (”Ninja” is shown in Malaysian theaters instead of direct-to-dvd like in the US) seats as blood was splashing and heads were rolling. “Ninja” (2009) isn’t as hyped up as “Ninja Assassin” (2009), which came up as my first Google search when I had tried to ascertain what the movie was about after seeing its enigmatic cinema poster ad depicting a stereotypical ninja with the backdrop of New York city. So, I went into the cinema without much expectation.

The movie started out well enough with a quick historical overview of Ninjas in Japan followed by a beautiful take of a Japanese dojo showing martial artists performing their “kata” or set moves. As most of the actors were Japanese, it felt like a typical Japanese martial arts movie until the scene shifted to the hero of the series, played by Scott Adkins, who stuck out like a sore thumb (well, not if you think the Caucasian guy playing Goku in Dragonball Evolution fits the role). He was showing off his half naked sculptured body with lots of muscles. Nothing wrong here if you are a screaming fangirl (Like one of the group of teenagers beside me. Ahem!) but it definitely foretells the direction of the movie. It is one of those that glosses over the storyline in favor of shocking our visual senses. Indeed, it would be a fantastic treat of sights and sounds if only they didn’t make the heroine such a useless damsel in distress. She is the daughter of the grandmaster of the Ninja school and was depicted as being at almost the same skill-level as the hero at the beginning so it really gets super annoying after she has to be saved for the umpteen time.

This film is definitely thought-provoking in the sense that you wonder how close all of this could be to happening in different places across the UK, and indeed what exactly is happening at the moment on the streets and if fear is a big factor in people’s everyday lives with unruly people around them.

“Hoodies” or “Chav’s” are usually unruly young people/teenagers in the UK. Not as extreme as in the film, but I am sure everyone who watches this and has seen these “hoodies” around will enjoy seeing them being shot and tortured in one of the scenes. Kinda getting what they deserve so to speak.

Michael Caine really does put in just a fantastic performance as Harry Brown. So many scenes which really cut through you, especially when he was too scared to use the under path because of the “hoodies” when he was rushing to the hospital to see his wife . . . and watching it you just knew he was not going to make it in time. Then the funeral scene for Len when you see loads of cars going past with Grandad on the flowers, then seeing Harry standing at the grave with the vicar knowing that was not his funeral that went past. Knowing that now Harry was alone and did not have anyone else to turn to really was heart breaking.

Final Destination 4 Reviews Cannot Cheat Death
The Final Destination 4 review count is still barely larger than the body count for this third sequel, especially in 3D. Yet Final Destination 4 reviews aren't pleased with the latest brush with death, in any dimension.

Like its predecessors, The Final Destination starts with a teen getting a flash forward about him and his friends dying in a horrible accident - then getting targeted by Death itself after they survive their destined demises. The big difference in this fourth film is that the cheated death takes place at a NASCAR race, and that the remainder of the elaborate deaths are in 3D.

To end summer, Final Destination 4 opens in the same weekend as Halloween 2. In the end, The Final Destination 4 reviews are only slightly worse than Halloween 2, at least early on. But lousy Final Destination reviews are no surprise, even though the series has tried to be different from other slasher films.

When the franchise began 10 years ago, it was like a predecessor to the Saw movies, in that the Final Destination franchise had overly-elaborate, gory, Rube Goldberg-like methods of death. The difference was that the killer was Death, not a masked maniac or a dying, moralizing psychopath.

With the same brutal yet operatic flair he brought to his previous films, "The Pusher Trilogy, " director Nicholas Winding Refn gets inside the mind of Bronson, and delivers not only a portrait of an artist bereft of an outlet, but also a scathing indictment of celebrity culture.

Tom Hardy plays the title character with disturbing intensity who physically transformed himself for the role. Hardy said, "The opportunity to play such a complex and tormented real-life character was a unique challenge for me, and one that required a great level of commitment and understanding."

Director Nicolas Winding Refn says about his new film, "It is Bronson's unending thirst for celebrity that has kept in prison for so long. And it was this particular aspect of his personality that we tried to capture in the film."

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan retells major events from the first two years of the celebrated sci-fi series through the eyes of the Cylons. It weaves together recycled scenes from the series with new footage to reveal a first-hand account of the Cylon agenda, or "plan."

The result is a film that feels incomplete, episodic and disjointed. It plays less like a movie and largely like a disk full of high quality bonus material. Most of what happens here feels irrelevant to the series -- almost like it was tacked on to the BSG mythos to satisfy completists and hardcore fans. Still, it's worth watching to see Dean Stockwell carry the film with a fearless performance as the scheming and duplicitous Brother Cavil. The veteran character actor takes center stage in The Plan, and your enjoyment of the film will rest largely on how much you like, or dislike, Cavil and his major role in the series.
