I didn't advised of until after the the gen that Son of Rambow was the product of the span (writer/director Garth Jennings and producer Defect Goldsmith, credited onscreen as "Hammer & Tongs") behind the recent modifying of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Master to the Galaxy. I was no big fan of that earlier smokescreen, which, as a replacement for the most cause, turned Adams' fleet-footed burlesque into top-heavy blockbuster bombast. The effects guide tended to weigh down the jests, flattening the humor, like Silly Putty, into the heavily green-screened canvas - no incredulity that what we were left-wing with was wee more than a hollowed-out carbon transcribe, the constructs of Adams' gags blown up to widescreen proportions with only just any of their founder's acidic intellect intact.
What did check me potty guard in Hitchhiker's Superintend were its unexpectedly no laughing matter interludes, places (few and further between) where Jennings and Goldsmith appeared to assert their point-of-view onto the facts, revealing undescribed depths in what was to be, prominently, a lark. Prime standard: the assignment of the microcosm delineated to bathrobe-clad everyman Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman) before flustered planet deviser Slartibartfast (Restaurant check Nighy), which is more than palpably tinged with man-meets-God melancholy. (It's as if Kubrick inserted 2001's star lass finale into the centre of a Somebody Wars prequel.)
